The game begins with Kratos, now the God of War, being summoned by a Spartan general to achieve the "glory of Sparta," threatening to destroy all of Greece. Athena tells Kratos that she cannot protect him if he destroys the city, but Kratos ignores her and throws himself from the top of Mount Olympus to the city of Rhodes.
